Saint Patrick's was the patron of Ireland. Saint Patrick's Day or Paddy's Day, is an festival day which celebrates on the name of Saint Patrick. This very day is celebrated on 17 March, the date on which Patrick is held to have died. Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated only as a national and religious holiday of the Irish people. Its also a feast in Roman Catholic Church due to the influence of the Waterford-born Franciscan scholar Luke Wadding.The begining of is very unique, and it was held on 17 March in 1996. In 1997, it became a three-day festival, and by 2000 it was a 4 day event. By 2006, the celebration was 5 days long. | |
Saint Patrick was born in 385 AD. At the age of sixteen Irish raiders captured him. He lived as a slave for 6 odd years in Ireland. Then he escaped to Gaul where he devoted 12 years of his life to a monastery. After that he returned to Ireland and spent 30 years there. He established many schools, monasteries and churches in Ireland. He spent the last years of his life in a place called County Down where he died. St. Patrick died on 17th March, 461. All across the world Christians celebrate this day as St. Patrick’s Day. People all over the globe celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with great fervor. They commence parades, throw parties, wear green hats, and drink green beer in remembrance of Saint Patrick.
Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17th march each year. St. Patrick’s Day is also called as St. paddy’s Day. Parents tell the importance of this day to their children. There are many St. Patrick’s Day party games that teach children about the importance of this day. Ireland has a national holiday on this day.
