It is again that time of the year when streets will be illuminated with gleaming lights, houses will be decorated with beautiful Christmas trees – everywhere there will be an atmosphere of fun and frolic. Besides all this, it is time for Christmas carols to be echoed in every nook and corner. Carols remind everyone that it's again Christmas! – A time of singing, dancing, enjoying and merry making.
Christmas carols say the story of Christ's birth. At the time of Jesus' birth, the angels sang various songs when they encountered the shepherds to tell the news of Jesus' birth. The practice followed from then on and slowly became a tradition to sing carols on Christmas.
Some of the Christmas songs are much older than you can think of. For example, the songs about Rudolph, the reindeer, Santa Claus, Baby Jesus etc are very old. One of the most previous Christmas carols was created in the 300s, around 1700 years ago. The lyrics of Christmas carols are chosen with so much care that they should reflect the holiday mood in them. It is assumed that the first ever Christmas carol to be recorded was "Of the Father's Love Begotten," written by Aurelius Prudentius. After that many different Christmas carols were created to sing at the Christmas time. People in congregations and with their neighborhood, friends and family sing Christmas carols during the fiesta. These songs bring about the festive spirit in everyone and fill the air with melody and rhythm.
In the year 1447, Christmas carols gained more popularity when the printing press of the eminent discoverer Johannes Gutenberg was created. In the thirteenth century, carols were basically communal songs, but later they got associated with Christmas and church.
