Christian Poems

Christian and Christmas are probably synonymous. Christmas is the occasion, which commemorates the birth of the idol, Jesus Christ, whose follows are known as Christians.

It is therefore obvious that most of the Christmas poems celebrate the essence of Christianity, as they welcome the King of heaven on this world. Here is Christmas Carnivals with a broad overview on the Christian Christmas poems.

Twelve days of Christmas is an important poem in this regard. The poem apparently reads like a love poem, but it has deep Roman Catholic connotations. During the time Roman Catholicism was banned in England, in order to propagate the tenets of the Christianity. The "true love" referred to in the poem is actually a reference to God, the Savior. The traditionally believed in Christianity that three kings traveled over great distance from different parts of the earth, and guided by the same star reached Bethlehem, the birth place of Jesus. This is the theme of the poem The Three Kings. In simple language and lucid style, Winifred Cannon's Bethlehem and Cavalry beautifully juxtaposes Christ's birth and his death.

In one stanza it describes how Mother Mary admires the tender face of her new born "king" and "tucks" in the covers, while in the other she helplessly but bravely looks on the pale face of her son and sees the nails being "tucked" in ruthlessly into her body. Mother Mary has always held a position of deep reverence in the Christian tradition. Christmas Madonna celebrates motherhood of Mary, the "pure Maiden" and "Virgin white", whose lap is the throne to the King of the world. The Gift of God is another religious Christian poem, which beautifully describes the Jesus not through any apparent descriptions, but by the wonder and admiration that are expressed by the ones fortunate to behold his heavenly glory.
