The President and the First Lady attend it every year and enjoy the illumination and entertainment provided by the nation's famed entertainers. It is the official beginning of the holiday season at the White House. The President and Mrs. Bush are invited to light the National Tree. The White House gingerbread house tradition began during the Nixon Administration and the pastry chefs has continued it ever since. Thaddeus Dubois, the current pastry chef, amazingly captured every infinitesimal architectural facet of the building on this year's house, as well as included the family pets on the front lawn. This year's gingerbread house unusually features the North Portico, rather than the traditionally depicted South.
