of the day, it is a near impossible prospect to opt for a Frugal Christmas. More difficult would it be to make the kids of the contemporary era understand the real essence of Christmas.
There is an ongoing debate about the relevance of Christmas today and most of the fundamentalists are attempting to bridge the gulf between Santa and Christ. Is it just gifts and presents that have made Santa more a popular figure than Christ or is the whole issue a mere figment of our imagination. Equating Santa with Satan would be a sheer exaggeration but can we really relegate this issue to the background so easily. “The toy that saved Christmas”, a computer animation video released in 1996 and directed by Chris Olsen and Phil Vischer had a similar message to impart.
Why can’t we let go of our run of the mill mentality and opt for a Frugal Christmas? Instead of buying all the stuffs from the stores, one can easily cut down on a lot of expenses by opting for home made items. Christmas Card Wreaths that are sold at cut throat prices in lead stores, can easily be made at home with old Christmas Cards and the Christmas Tree Showers can easily be made by wrapping matchboxes in glitter wrappers.
Reach out to the poor and the needy this Christmas. Whatever little you saved by observing a Frugal Christmas, could be handed over to a charity organization. Christmas is as much theirs as it is ours.
