Christmas Shopping

Christmas today is a lot more than simply commemorating the memory of Jesus Christ, the Messiah who was born to alleviate people from suffering. The festive season is marked with celebrations, parties, prayers, Church plays, community functions, exchanging gifts and cards. Christmas Shopping naturally is an important part of all the festive activity.

There are several traditional Christmas markets in different parts of the world that boast of stalls that have been put up by generations of the same family for decades. Germany is one such country; apparently there are more than 100 Christmas shopping markets across the country. These markets are an experience. Steeped in festive aura, glittering lights, ornate lush conifers, mistletoes; and bakeries full of Christmas delights; plum puddings, gingerbread men and candy canes.

The Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg
– is world famous. Christmas shopping here is a fascinating holiday experience. The fact that the market is more than three hundred and eighty four years old makes the adventure even more romantic. You can still shop for traditional style handmade wooden toys and gorge on traditional delights, especially the ‘lebkuchen’ or gingerbread that is prepared with a recipe that has been passed down through word-of-mouth for than 600 years.

The Vancouver Christmas Market
– has been attracting visitors for the last three years. Besides shopping for goodies, ornaments, trees and gifts the market also organizes carol singing events and street plays.

Christmas Markets in London

– Christmas shopping in Hyde Park and Southbank offers a unique holiday experience. The entire mood is that of a large fair replete with food, entertainment and festive bonanza. The wooden chalets at the traditional market in Southbank offer unusual tree ornaments, food delights and interesting gift items.
