Christmas is celebrated with great passion and enthusiasm in the White House. White House as is known by everybody on this planet, is the official residence of the President of United States of America. White House Christmas is celebrated traditionally by the First Family and some of the ornaments and other things related to Christmas have been used by many previous Presidents.
The Christmas tree is one of the most conspicuous things in White House Christmas. The tradition of a placing a decorated tree in the White House began in 1889 on Christmas morning by President Benjamin Harrison. It was a family gathering, but now has become a tradition. What began as a family gathering has become a national tradition. First Lady Frances Cleveland was the first to create a "technology savvy" tree in 1895 when she hung electric lights on the White House tree. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy began the tradition of Christmas tree themes when she decorated the 1961 Christmas tree in toy trimmings from the Nutcracker Suite ballet by Tchaikovsky. Now Laura Bush (the present First Lady) selects a theme and taps the talent of the best artisans.
White House Christmas has a lot of ornaments which are decorated on the Christmas tree or used in the general décor of the place. The gorgeous Christmas party in the White House is attended by the most distinguished of the American citizens.
