regarding the way the original “ Santa Fe” got transformed into “Santa Claus”. Santa Claus’ name is something of local legend. It is said that on the Christmas Eve of 1849, when the town was still unnamed, the area council met at a Christmas party, and decided on the name “Santa Claus”.
According to another legend says that in the year 1846, the town is said to have applied for the installation of a post office. Their application was returned back with the request to opt for some other name than “Santa Fe”. How exactly the town received its name “Santa Claus” is not very well known, but from 1856, the name was accepted by the post office department of United States. It was the Milton Harris, a Vincennes entrepreneur, who builds the first themed tourist attraction of America by building the Santa’s Candy Castle in Santa Claus, Indiana. The major attractions of this amusement park are red brick Candy Castle and the Toy Village, which has a series of miniature fairytale buildings sponsored by the national toy manufacturers. Whatever may be the history behind christening the town with the name of the most popular Christmas icon, but the people of Indiana hold Santa in hgh regard, the proof of which is the giant statue of the old man, which marksthe town’s entrance.
