The History of Santa Claus |
Santa Claus first emerged when the Dutch settlers came to Manhattan on Christmas day the 25th of December 1624. St. Nicholas' evolution into the bear-like cuddly person, as we know him today, is a wonderful blending of countless practices the world over. He makes toys all along the year with his pet elves. On Christmas Eve, he puts on his famous suit and black boots, rides his sleigh pulled by eight reindeer to begin his gift giving trip to the countless children of the world. Today he epitomizes all the goodness, humility and simplicity of childhood.
Until the 1800s Santa as we know him today hardly started to emerge. Writers and creative artists depicted a lovable jolly old man, small in size with a large heart. On Christmas Eve he would ride in a plush decorated sleigh pulled by eight reindeer over treetops and roofs of the 19th century cottages. He was supposed to drop gifts down the chimneys of good children.
The arrival of Santa on Christmas Eve has become the most anticipated event of the Christmas holiday season. He is recognized around the world as symbolizes love, caring, and gift giving throughout the festive season. Jolly in the spirit of the season with Christmas Carnivals The History of Santa Claus.
