Chinese Christmas Recipes

Christians constitute only 1 % of the Chinese population and since its a known fact that not Christmas, but the Chinese New Year forms the auspicious occasion for the Chinese and is celebrated with graders and glee, many people errorously presume that Christmas being a Christian holiday is relegated to the background.

But this is just the half-truth as Christmas and the birth of Christ is a great event for the whole world and irrespective of class and creed people celebrate it in their respective countries. But the only difference that is visible is probably in the procedures of observing the holiday i.e. the rituals and practices have been improvised to suit the traditional patterns of each country. China is by no means an exception and in spite of its nominal Christian population, Christmas is celebrated in Christian households with much fun and frolic and the most interesting part is that the Chinese gusts are invited for the Thanks giving to grace the great feast. Amalgamation between the conventional Christian culture and the Chinese culture seems to be the byword of all the Christian traditions that are practiced in China. Here we provide you with the recipe of the Almond Chinese Cookie that's a hot favorite during Christmas in China.

"Almond Chinese Cookies Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon almond extract
  • 1/4 pound whole, blanched almonds
Procedure:

Keep the oven ready by preheating it to325 degrees F. Mix the flour, sugar, butter, salt and baking soda until it forms little balls in a food processor. Add the eggs and almond extract. Roll out the dough on floured surface and cut with a 2 1/2 inch cookie cutter. Place it on the greased cookie sheet and place an almond at the center of each cookie and compete the preparation by baking it for 25 min.
