The film, The Nightmare Before Christmas, begins by introducing us to the Halloween Town and its venerable leader Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King. He in fact is the protagonist of the film. Jack is a skeleton, who is shown to wear a black suit with thin grey stripes and his bow tie looks almost like a bat. Sally is another important character of the film. She is a rag doll, and her creator is Dr. Finklestein. Sally nurtures secret affection for Jack but is too timid to voice her feelings for him. Dr. Finklestein is the scientist of the Halloween Town, who after creating Sally also made a female version of himself, as he found Sally to be unmanageable and adamant. The unique feature of the scientist is that his head is hinged and he can easily open his skull and touch is brain. The other important character in the film is that of the bad guy Oogie Boogie. The villain takes the form of a giant brown sack, which contains innumerable bugs inside, and his character as described in the Oogie Boogie theme song is that of the gambler, who gambles unfairly, especially when other's like is at stake. Santa Claus in this movie is referred to as Sandy Claws. He is the master of the Christmas Town and his kidnap by Oogie Boogie marks a decisive moment of the movie. Besides these characters, we also have Lock, Stock and Barrel, the children who actually are the henchmen of the villain Oogie Boogie, and are entrusted with the job of kidnapping Santa by Jack. The other residents of Halloween are Bats, Werewolf and Corpses.
