Origin of the Easter Bunny

During the ancient times the goddess of spring known as Eostre regarded the hare to be her most holy and sacred animal. The origin of the Easter Bunny is believed to be from the pre-Christian fertility lore. The rabbit and the hare were the most common animals during those times and are regarded to be symbolic to the renewal of life all through the spring season. The hare is believed to bring
presents in the form of colored Easter eggs to the kids during Easter. The Easter bunny was initially used as a representation of Easter during the 16th century in Germany. This also came to be stated in the German writings.

It was during the 1800's that the first Easter bunnies that were made from pastry and sugar that could be eaten were manufactured in Germany. Gradually the Easter bunny spread through America and other countries. The children would build nests in a very isolated place near their homes for the Easter bunny and waited in great anticipation for the bunny to come and give them gifts. The children considered the Easter bunny to be lucky for them as they received their favorite Bunny eggs on Easter. It was a common belief that the bunny would leave eggs for the good children.

It was then that the Easter bunny began to be associated with Easter and is regarded to be one of the most important parts of the celebrations. The Easter bunny is symbolic to the renewal of life and Easter that comes during the wake of the spring season makes for a new beginning of life. The Easter bunny is used in a variety of ways to represent Easter even to this day. These include the Easter games, Easter bunny cake and various decorations that enhance the spirit of the grand fiesta. Make immense use of the Easter bunny this Easter and have the most exciting time. Browse through the other links of the site to know more about Easter bunny.
