History of Easter Bonnet

Costumes form an essential part of every celebration and Easter is no exception. The Easter bonnet has a unique history of its own. The Easter parade is sure to become grander if lots of frills are incorporated in the Easter bonnet. The Christians regard the celebration of Easter to be auspicious and holy.

The Easter bonnets are worn while visiting the church to offer prayers. This tradition developed out of the delight and ecstasy adjoining the sacred times for Christians. The Easter bonnets were believed to originate even before Easter began to be celebrated. There are various customs and traditions associated to the Easter bonnet. The activities like attending the Easter parade or church services incorporated the use of Easter hats. The Easter parade too is not new to the Easter celebrations. The parade is believed to have its origin in New York in the year 1870's. The people who went to the church in the ancient times carried flowers from one church to another. The two common churches were the St. Thomas church and St. Luke's church. Flowers were carried from these two churches. An elite gave the people who wore hats and bonnets a chance to brag off their hats and bonnets.

Easter being celebrated on a Sunday was at one point of time commonly known as the "Sunday of Joy". Subsequent to the Civil war mothers and daughters wore colorful hats and intricate corsages as a part of the Easter celebration. The hats were well decorated with fresh and fragrant flowers and looked stunningly attractive. If the flowers withered away the flowers were then made from paper, ribbons and feathers.
