Easter Island Chile

Easter Island Chile is one of the most romantic places on earth, one of the world's most remote and uninhabited islands. Located more than thousands of miles off the central coast of Chile, it forms a division of Chile's fifth region. Locally the island is known as Isla De Pascua. Its coastline is dotted with huge stone monoliths, known as Moai, that seem to guard the island and have also made the island famous by attracting tourists from all over the world.

Easter Island Chile is formed by volcanic rock in the form of a triangle, in the Pacific Ocean. The three volcanoes that constitute it are Maunga Terevaca, Poike and Rano Kau. "Te Pito O Te Henua" meaning “Navel of The World” was the name given to this island by the early settlers who came from Europe. On April 5, 1722, Dutch admiral Jacob Roggeveen set foot on this island on an Easter Sunday, therefore, he called it Easter Island. Local people call themselves, their land and their language, “Rapa Nui”. The ancient culture of this island is now lost forever, but glimpses of it can be viewed in an open air museum on the island. You can also visit a number of ancient shrines on Easter Island. Anyone who goes to visit Easter Island Chile gets a warm welcome from Rapa Nuis. The island treats its guests with exotic lava formations, the exquisite blue sea, places of archaeological interest, a number of volcanic craters and a sense of mystery that prevails all over it.

To reach Easter Island Chile from Santiago it is just a matter of few hours, about four to five hours, by air. An enthusiastic tourist can find lots of things to do on the island such as hiking, trekking, sport fishing, swimming, horseback ridings, scuba diving, sea kayaking, rowing, canoeing, mountain biking, exploring caves, having picnics, watching birds, contemplating the flora and fauna, and last but not the least, exploring a wonderful scope for photography. Keep reading Christmas Carnivals to get more interesting information on Easter Island.
