Easter Egg Pattern

All over the world, Easter eggs are decorated using different patterns and different materials. This tradition of decorating Easter eggs with various patterns is a very old tradition. Different types of Easter egg patterns are available such as Easter egg crochet patterns.

The various old traditions of decorating Easter eggs are as follows –
  • In Greece and in the Middle Eastern countries, orthodox Christians painted the Easter eggs in bright red color as a symbol of Christ's blood.
  • In Slavonic cultures, Easter eggs had special gold and silver patterns on them.
  • In Armenia, hollowed egg shells were painted with the images of the Christ, Virgin Mary, and other Christian Saints.
  • In Germany, hollowed eggs were hung from the trees on Easter and green eggs were given away as gifts on Holy Thursday.
  • In Austria, eggs were boiled after tiny plants were placed around them. It made white patterns on the egg when the plants were removed.
  • In Eastern European countries, wax was applied on the eggs forming intricate patterns. The egg would then be dyed in a particular shade. The egg would again be dyed in different shades after reapplying wax on dyed portions to preserve the shade achieved. A patterned or striped egg with many colors was formed in this way.
