Welcome to Christmas Island the bird watching haven of Australia. . It lies in the Indian Ocean and is located 2,600 kilometers northwest of Perth in Western Australia, and just 360 kilometers south of the Indonesian Island of Java. With dense rainforest and tree species like ferns, orchids and vine groves Christmas Island has a unique and complex ecosystem It is said to be shaped like a Scottish terrier dog.

As a forested oceanic island with access to nutrient-rich upwelling, Christmas Island provides a perfect breeding environment for a wide variety of seabirds. There are eight species or sub-species of seabirds nesting on the island. Mostly found are the Red-footed Booby that nests on many parts of the shore terrace. Abbott's Booby one of the endangered species nests on tall emergent trees of the western, northern and southern plateau rainforest. The endemic Christmas Island Frigate bird flirts on the updrafts.
Christmas Island is truly the kingdom of the crabs. They occupy every niche on the island from the shoreline to the top plateau. The most famous of them all is the Red Crab, of which around 120 million live on the forest floor all over the island.
Christmas Island offers some wonderful walks through the beautiful forests, as well as diving, fishing and surfing. The surf season is between Novembers to March, while snorkeling is great between Aprils to October. There are also some great places for you to explore on the island. One of them is the Christmas Island national Park that is truly termed as the ornithological garden of Even.
