The House Without a Christmas Tree written by Gail Rock is a wonderful book portraying a heartwarming story. The plot of the book deals with the story of a ten year old girl Addie who finds it extremely difficult to go through a Christmas day. Addie’s father misses her mother who had already passed away and ousts her away during the festivities. Addie wins a Christmas tree at school but has to get rid of it at the last moment due to her father’s indifference. The presence of the Christmas tree makes her father upset and both failed to understand each other’s feelings. The writer sketches the character of Addie as a typical young girl while her father an extremely human figure depressed with the feelings of his dead wife. The characters are well developed and leave a mark on your heart. The writer has truly done justice to Addie and her lonely life.
