Christmas Tree Star History

The festival of Christmas is linked with the birth of Jesus Christ who is considered to be the Son of God. At the beginning it was only the Christians who celebrated this festival with great pomp and vigor, but later on it got accepted by people belonging
to different cultures. A lot of traditions and customs got associated with this festival as the years passed by. All the symbols linked with Christmas have a history of their own. In the same manner the Christmas tree star history has its own origin.

The ritual of giving gifts to each other at the time of Christmas started with the three magi who endowed Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Likewise the Christmas tree star history has its roots in the Bible, as it is stated in the Bible itself that it was a star that guided the three magi to the birthplace of Jesus. Thus the star, which became an inherent part of the Christmas celebrations, was placed at the top of a Christmas tree. It was Martin Luther, the founder of the Protestant religion, who revived the stars with the help of candles. He set those candles on the branches of a Christmas tree in order to get the whole tree lighted up. But nowadays stars made of various materials are available at the market, which are purchased by the people to decorate their Christmas Tree.

The Star is said to be symbolic of the “Star in the East”. In other words the star symbolizes the acceptance of Christ by the people. Christmas Carnivals regarding the Christmas Tree Star history.
