History of Christmas Decoration

All the festivals have their flair of decoration. During Christmas also people love to embellish their homes with the different types of decorative items. The history of Christmas decoration originated in the 7th century when a monk came to Germany to spread the word of God. He brought along with him a tree, which he gave it to the people to
decorate in their own way. White candles devoid any ornamentation was used to decorate the Christmas Tree.

In the history of Christmas decoration the Poinsettia plays a significant role. The story goes that a child wanted to give a gift to Jesus but was devoid of any money, so having no other option he plucked a poinsetta from the side of the road and decided to give it to Jesus, and as soon as he entered the Church, beautiful flowers grew from the Poinsettia. From then the Poinsetta has become an integral part of the Christmas decorations. The other plants with which the people adorn their houses are the Holly and the Mistletoe. The hanging of the Mistletoe in the doorways of the houses has become a Christmas tradition.

Most of the ornaments used for decoration were made of hand blown glass that came from Germany. The candy cane used for Christmas decoration also has its own history, as it was originally straight, but later it took on the shape of a curve to symbolize the shepherd’s staff. The invention of injection mode plastics in America gave the people a wide range of decorative items to choose from and at a much reasonable rate. The decorations were not only restricted to the households and the churches, as the city light poles also got decked. Christmas Carnivals offers information on the history of Christmas Decorations that have become a tradition worldwide.
