History of Christmas Child chronicles the events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ and his message of love is as relevant as ever. From Gospel of Luke, we get an idea of Nativity or Jesus' birth. The angel Gabriel informed Mary, the Holy Virgin, that she was chosen by God to bear His Child. Very shortly after this,Mary and her husband Joseph (he was a carpenter in Nazareth but descended from the family of David), left Nazareth to go to Bethlehem.
It was the ancestral home of Joseph. King Herod, the ruler of the province of Galilee was a tyrant and had ordered that all children below two years should be killed. To escape such a cruel fate, Mary and Joseph fled, but unfortunately they could not find a place to stay in Bethlehem. The infant Jesus was born in a barn deserted by the shepherds.
History of Christmas Child tells us that Lord Jesus (Jesus means Savior), was born in poverty. There was nothing in and around the barn which could mean that a "king" has been born. But God wanted the whole world to know that a messiah has come and the angels sang and flew around in great joy. The shepherds camping on the hills spread the news of a baby's birth. Three wise men from Asia saw a bright star in the heavens and followed it. The star brought them to the Infant's manger. They greeted the Child with myrrh, frankincense and gold. After this, the Magi returned home avoiding Jerusalem.
