Christmas Flower Bulbs

Christmas Flowers Bulbs
Bulbs are under ground buds with disc shaped stems from which roots grow. Good bulbs are plump, firm and free from any defect. They are also good in size. A very small bulb may not flower in the first year. Christmas flower bulbs refer to bulbs of flowers like Tulip, Daffodil, Snowdrop, Crocuses and so on.

All these flowers are planted in clusters around the time when winter is about to begin and blossom during the time of Christmas.

If you want to plant these Christmas flower bulbs so that they blossom in your garden during Christmas then go through these plantation guidelines:

  • Usually bulbs are planted in tubs, window boxes or under a tree in a cluster but if you want to have them in grass then choose low growing varieties such as "February Gold" or "Jenny" daffodils or Kaufmanniana tulips.

  • Bulbs should be planted three times their height into the ground because they suffer if not planted too deep.

  • Plantation of the same bulb plant should be done in autumn.
    • Cut off the dead flower heads before they turn into seeds and let the stem die off naturally after turning brown. This is done to protect the nourishment of the bulb.

    • 15th September is generally considered to be the best date for planting to ensure flowers for Christmas, but this cannot be guaranteed.
