Christmas Dress |
There’s something about a holiday party, whether at home or the office, that makes women look for Christmas dresses to mark the occasion. Depending on who you are gathering with, you can opt for a vibrant display of festive color or go with an understated black dress with a little embellishment. No matter what you choose, be sure to select something that makes you feel elegant and comfortable. It’s tough to enjoy the holiday if the outfit you chose seems to be choking the joy out of you!
Dressing Tips
Here are some tips to help you stand out without being flamboyant during your next Christmas party:
1. Know where you’re going
This is less about having directions to the location than it is a tip to take into account the environment you will be celebrating in. For example, if you are getting together with church friends at a casual dining restaurant it would be inappropriate to wear a lavish cocktail dress. Sure, it’s possible to bring a little bit of formality to the occasion, but look in the mirror and ask “Am I going to be that woman by wearing this?”
2. Consider your fellow attendees
Simply put, think about the people you will be around. Though you aren’t dressing for anyone but yourself, the company you’ll be keeping ought to give you pause. Will you be reveling with some colleagues? Hanging out around the fire with relatives? Spend a few minutes playing out the possibilities if you wear one dress as opposed to the other, especially if you have to work with your fellow partygoers on Monday morning. Wearing a too-revealing outfit is almost as bad as being the person who has too much to drink in the eyes of your fellow employees.
3. Be festive, but don’t overdo it
There’s nothing wrong with putting on a bright red dress and a green scarf, but it’s a little over the top to have it light up like a Christmas tree. Choose something classic, then use accessories to display your festive side – maybe a small bracelet with colored bulbs or a jeweled pin shaped like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Whatever you do, make it tasteful.
4. Err on the side of caution
Trust your instincts. If there’s any sort of doubt whether you should wear something – like the big green shoes with the curled toes and jingle bells – then step back and consider whether you’re in the right ensemble. You might get a rush of excitement putting on something new (after you’ve lost some weight, for example), but that’s entirely different from the uneasiness you feel when you put on a Christmas dress pushing the limits of tasteful.
5 . Be comfortable : You should feel comfortable in whatever you wear – from makeup to dress and footwear.
