Gonzo the Great, the puppet of Henson’s “The Great Santa Claus Switch” is the narrator of the movie. The main plot of the adaptation centers on Ebenezer Scrooge, who is rude and scrupulous moneylender, on whom even
Christmas has no special significance. All he wants in life is profit. In the later half of the movie we find Scrooge being visited by Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. They all hold the mirror to his life past, the bleak life he is leading and the hollow existence he will have in future. The ultimate realization dons on him that nothing is more important than to enjoy and cherish the gift of life. There after, he vows to participate in the Christmas festivities as his fellowmen.
Brian Henson was able to carve a nitche with his first directorial endevour. Unlike the other movies under the Muppet banner, in this adaptation we find that the central plot is concerned with human characters. Brain created the puppets of the three ghosts specifically for this movie and did not resort to any popular and earlire creations to appear fresh and new. The movie is a musical and has some of the famous songs like One More Sleep 'Til Christmas by Kermit, When Love is Gone by Meredith Braun, which was incidentally cut off when the movie released in 1992, as Brain Henson was of the impression that it will hamper the pace opf the movie.
