Bethlehem Christmas Time

The story of the birth of Christ has been handed down centuries as legend, folk-lore and myth. The birthplace, Bethlehem, has been in focus ever since. Find out all about Bethlehem Christmas Time from Christmas Carnivals. The Gospels, especially of Matthew and Luke highlight events other than Christ’s birth.
The Magi or the 3 Wise Men had come to honor the Nativity all the way from Bethlehem. However, Matthew abstains from mentioning the trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The Wise Men arrive in Jerusalem and report the holy birth to Herod, the king of Judea. They had seen the Star of Bethlehem which heralded the birth of Christ. This star leads them to Bethlehem of Judea, home of the crib of Christ.

The little town is ablaze with flags and decorations every Christmas. On Christmas Eve, natives and visitors alike crowd the church doorways and stand on the roof to see the annual procession. Horsemen gallop and police mounted on Arabian horses lead the parade, followed by a solitary horseman bearing a Cross, astride a black stallion. He is succeeded by churchmen and government officials. The procession solemnly enters the church doors and places an ancient effigy of the Holy Child resting in the church. Deep winding stairs lead to a grotto where visitors find a silver star marking the site of the birth of Jesus.

Christian homes in Bethlehem are marked by a Cross painted over the door and each home displays a homemade manger scene. A star is set up on a pole in the village square to mark the season of Advent.
