At the German farm, visitors learn about the origins of Christmas trees and stories of St. Nicholas visiting children. At the Scots-Irish farm (1730), visitors look in on a Presbyterian family who did not believe in celebrating Christmas. At the English farm (1690) visitors are entertained by evergreen decorations, a Yule log, was sailing and singing. The evening lantern tours are also very popular events of Christmas in West Virginia.
The Historic Crab Orchard Museum & Pioneer Park in Tazewell, Appalachia portrays life and culture of the western Virginians. The museum’s Christmas on the Frontier offers special Christmas foods, horse, buggy rides and dulcimer music.
The Appalachian Coal Town Christmas and Light Festival held in Beckley, West Virginia marks the Christmas in West Virginia. Lacy's Lights at Fayette Co. Park, Little Beaver State Park, Nicholas County Veterans Memorial Park, Holiday of Lights Festival at Bluefield's Lotito City Park and Tamarack display spectacular lightings. The main events of the Appalachian Coal Town Christmas include Lights & Decorations, Theatres by West Virginia and Community Church Groups & Choirs, Bonfire with Marshmallow Roasting, Arts, Crafts and Food Vendors, Horse & Buggy Rides, Appearance of Santa Claus, Underground Coal Mine Tours with Light Displays and exhibition at the Youth Museum.
