Christmas In Washington |
|
Christmas in Washington is a national celebration. The Christmas tree is lit up, the White house is decked with Christmas fineries and the National Mall displays unique Christmas costumes and crafts.
| |
The majority of Americans celebrate Christmas with the exchange of gifts and greetings and with family visits. Baking cookies, making fruitcakes and candy are all part of the holiday tradition. Decorating the house, putting up lights and a tree, singing carols, playing music are done to celebrate the season. Holiday traditions have a way of evolving over the years, as children grow and family’s change.
The National Tree Lighting festival is a grand occasion of Christmas in Washington.
In the National Tree Lighting festival the National Christmas Tree is lighted. This heralds a two-week Pageant of Peace, which is a celebration of caroling, music, and many other events. Lighted Christmas Trees representing every state and territory of the United States are up on display. The President of the United States lights the National Christmas tree on a Thursday in the month of December. The ceremony is accompanied by an orchestra and choral group singing lilting Christmas songs.
Christmas in Washington is marked by a festive array of annual events. Christmas at the White House, carols and pageants at the "Church of the Presidents" and exquisite Christmas crafts display at the Decatur House Museum Shop and Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery of Arts and Crafts bring out the true spirit of Christmas in Washington. The antique-filled period rooms at the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum really make us spellbound.
