Christmas In Norway |
|
Christmas in Norway is very joyous and is also the time for great merry making. Norway, being in the Northern Hemisphere, has very short days in the winter. Christmas is cold dark and bleak. A bough of evergreen in the room definitely makes the mind more cheerful. So in Norway, Christmas trees are a must.

Either a spruce or a pine tree is kept in the living room. It is decorated with white lights, tinsel, Norwegian flags and many other Christmas ornaments.
An endearing tradition of Christmas in Norway is that the whole family comes together to make baskets of colorful paper to hang on the Christmas tree. The baskets are filled with candies and nuts. Different types of lights are used to decorate the Christmas tree and all families have their tree ornaments which are used with abandon for decoration. Originally, candles were the only lights to be used on Christmas trees, but today multicolored LED lights are vastly popular. Lights are used to decorate the houses, churches, town squares, shopping malls, offices and parks. The brightly lighted areas are a feast for the eyes. Christmas in Norway is not complete without the singing of Christmas carols. And before opening the presents, Norwegian families dance in a ring around the Christmas tree.
Norway has its own distinctive touch to the Christmas feast. Norwegian Christmas dinner has salted lamb ribs served with mashed kohlrabi or rutabaga, boiled potatoes and mustard. Cold Christmas beer is also served. The whole family sits down to the Christmas dinner and the meal is a cheerful one. To know more, connect to
