Christmas In Germany

Christmas in Germany is celebrated on a very huge scale. Many of the traditional Christmas customs originated in Germany. The Christmas tree originated in the upper Rhine region. The Advent calendar signifies the arrival of Christmas season. Advent starts on the first Sunday after November 26th. After the four Advent Sundays are over,
there are the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Advent calendars with their bright Christmas pictures hang alongside children's beds.

Christmas in Germany must have the Advent wreath. The wreath is made of bound fir twigs to which four candles are attached. One more candle is lit for each of the Advent Sundays. Large houses, shops and churches, have Advent wreaths hanging from the ceiling, adorned with four fat red or yellow candles. A Christmas in Germany without the Christmas green fir tree is simply unbelievable. The tranquil splendor of Christmas tree lights is an essential aspect of the festival in Germany. All Germans living in Germany or abroad have the Christmas tree on 23rd December. Trees are also found in churches and public squares. They are used in shops and offices as decoration.

Christmas in Germany makes generous use of the Christmas music. The very famous of all German language Christmas songs, "Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht! (Silent Night, Holy Night) was first heard during Christmas 1818 at the small church of St. Nicholas in Oberndorf (Austria), which is near Salzburg and the German-Austrian border. Christmas feast plays an important role in all the merrymaking in Germany during Christmas. The traditional Christmas dinner comprises of different baked and roasted delicacies. The custom of serving boar’s head in Christmas dinner is now done away with. Visit Christmas Carnivals for more.
