Christmas In Denmark |
|
Christmas in Denmark is well loved and very popular. 25th December and 26th December are holidays for the Danes and they make the most of it. As Christmas approaches, the days grow very short. Only a few hours of dim light lie between the darkness of morning and the darkness of evening.

Electric lights are on almost for 24 hours each day. There are few places in the world where Christmas is celebrated with such enthusiasm. To dispel the gloom of the never-ending twilight of winter, the Danes light thousands of candles. Denmark has the very old tradition of lighting candles to dispel the gloominess and bleakness of the outside world.
The most important day in the Danish holiday season is Christmas Eve. However, the day before 24th December is the busiest. The Danes spend the day preparing for Christmas Eve dinner, decorate the tree, tidy up the house, and wrap the gifts. The Danes are very proud of their gift-wrapping. They usually have a high pile of presents beneath the tree because Danes exchange presents with all members of their family as well as close friends. Christmas Eve is usually for the immediate family, grandparents, or even an elderly aunt or uncle who would otherwise be alone on that evening. Christmas in Denmark is the time of great fellow feeling.
Advent is celebrated in Christmas in Denmark. Advent wreath of evergreen boughs is found in most Danish households. 26th December is known as the Second Christmas Day. Christmas Eve dinner has rice pudding with magical almond inside and the person who finds this almond is given a gift. The Christmas elves called Julenisse are appeased with rice pudding, and dishes of seeds are placed outdoors for wild birds. Log on to
