has a lot of Spanish influence on their culture and Christmas in Columbia does have some reflections of this. Roman Catholics make up around 95% of the population.
Christmas in Columbia is celebrated with pomp and vigor. The country’s main religious festival and the holiday season are enjoyed by all. Christmas in Columbia sees hectic activity before 25th December. The shopping malls are crowded as all try to buy gifts for friends and family. The Columbians enjoy having a decked up Christmas tree in their midst. The tree is decorated with Christmas ornaments, lights and candles. The whole effect is very “Christmassy”. The decoration is certainly not confined to the Christmas tree in the festive season. Houses are brightly decorated with ornaments and lights, the outhouses and the yards are lit up as well. The churches have nativity scenes (birth of Christ) amongst other decorations, nativity scenes are found in the home decorations too.
Christmas in Columbia sees the special prayer service on the morning of 25th December, the Midnight Mass is held the night before. After the prayer service on Christmas Day, it is time to spend the rest of the day with family and friends. Know more on this from
Christmas Carnivals.
