12 Days of Christmas Song

The 12 days of Christmas song is associated with the festive days, that is, from the evening after Christmas day till Epiphany (January 6th). Boxing Day is the first day of Christmas, December 27th is the second day of Christmas and so on till January 6th which is the 12th day of Christmas. 12 days of Christmas song is actually a very popular English Christmas carol.

The 12 days of Christmas song is associated with the time of the Catholic’s persecution in England. There was a time in English history when the Catholics were severely persecuted and any Catholic if caught practicing his faith was brutally punished. So there was a fear among them that perhaps, they will not be able to follow their faith and the successive generations would lose all trace of the Catholic tenets. This song is symbolic and used by Catholic parents to teach the nuances of their faith to their children. It was used in the European and Scandinavian.

Some of the symbolic words are “true love” meaning God, “two turtle doves” means Old and New Testaments, “three French hens” symbolizes three virtues or the Holy Trinity, “five gold rings” mean the first five books of the Bible, “six geese a-laying” refer to the six days of Creation, “seven swans a-swimming” refers to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, “ten lords a-leaping” means the Ten Commandments, “eleven pipers piping” means the eleven faithful Apostles. The other words are symbolic as well.

This Christmas sing the 12 days of Christmas song from Christmas Carnivals.
